If you love a great historical fiction novel with mystery, intrigue, and surprises then this one is definitely for you! Death is a beginning.

William Crawford is the main pratogognist of this story. William is quite the chracter, he's a family man with a highly scientific, engineering academic background. It started off fairly typically, but very quickly became gripping and thought-provoking. It’s strength lies in a writing style that I found very enjoyable, characters the reader can feel an emotional attachment and multiple plot twists that constantly keeps one guessing.

It's a bit of slow burner, but once the scenes are set, there is not going back, and I really struggled to put it down. the erratic behaviour portrayed was almost a possession in itself.

And the paperback is just as pleasing on the eye! I enjoyed following the journey of the characters throughout, with one of my favourite things being to follow the humour and arrogance of some of the characters. No spoilers here but I will say I’m still undecided as to whether mediums have a gift or not but what I decide on what a fabulous read this book is.

Its very evident that West took his time and care to do his research before writing, and although I don't know too much about the history of this story. What a talent,so rare these days. This fantastic debut needs to be added to everyone’s list, and being released in October, it is THE spooky book to read this Halloween.
