That Colorful Teacher

I’m not normally a fan of poetry, my exposure at school was to have a teacher with a very monotonous voice talk to us about it and write everything he said in my copy of the anthology. In true CoHo fashion, SLAMMED is an emotional love story, with plenty of twists thrown in + revolved around slam poetry, which was a really engaging added concept. So the twist that happened in this story which halts their relationship, isn’t normally a storyline I would go for.

Finally found the butterfly cover in the first book! Thank you! I had no idea this was Colleen’s DEBUT novel, but on reflection can also see how much her writing style has developed in recent years.

The 2nd and 3rd ones are at Barnes and Noble if anyone is looking for the rest. The next year they had to take a fresh copy with no student notes 🤷‍♀️ I think if I had a teacher who took us to a poetry slam, I might have enjoyed it more! at uni maybe?

Don’t hesitate, just read it! I was in the final year that was allowed to take our copy of the anthologies with all our notes in, and I have to say that teacher probably helped with my A grade in this section! It gave me major Tom Macdonald vibes 🙌🏼 (a spoken word artist). A must buy product.

Layken + Will were a super cute couple: I warmed to both of them + I loved the will they/won’t they (pun maybe intended) of their romance, the relationship both had with their siblings, the connection through similar traumas + that Will was supportive of Lake even when he couldn’t be romantically involved. Content with the delivery and the book condition as well. Parts felt more obviously YA than others— Lake felt very immature at times + the fact she was only 18 was reflected in her behaviour, whereas Will was the total opposite + I kept forgetting he was only 21. It sounds exciting to hear people express themselves in this way and I might have felt like having a go!
